When I was 11 years old, I was assigned my first research project. I chose Alfred Hitchcock as my topic. I had never seen a Hitchcock film, but I wanted my project to be different from my classmates’. They talked about butterflies, I talked about The Birds. They talked about the Dallas Cowboys, I talked about British gangsters. They talked about swimming, I talked about…showering.
My passion and love of film was inherent – I was drawn to Hitchcock with the desire to learn something new and exciting and to experience a familiar medium in an unfamiliar way. Since then, my passion has only grown and my tastes vary considerably. To me, the power of film is remarkable – it is the culmination of all other forms of art. It is the weight of words meeting the passion of theater and photography combined with the beauty of music and the composition of painting and graphic design.
I love to digest as much art as I can, so if I’m not viewing or writing about films, then I’m either going to concerts or reading comics or browsing used book stores. But my real passion is writing. It lets me use words to create meaning out of nothing, to recreate my enthusiasm in others.
